Environmental Protection
PT Adaro Indonesia recognizes that coal mining will have an impact on the surrounding environment and local communities and applies strict standards on all phases of its operations through an Environmental Policy and Master Plan to ensure that these are minimized.
Land affected by mining is reclaimed as soon as possible and handed back to the local community. The reclamation includes planting of commercial crops, creating fish farms and developing recreational areas. Reclamation is also used as an opportunity for agricultural training.
Continuous monitoring of air and water quality as well as strict programs for air, water and waste handling and control are an integral part of the environmental program with the Environmental Department's field personnel and on-site laboratory being equipped with an extensive range of equipment to handle all aspects of monitoring and analysis.
The objective of Adaro’s Environmental Policy is:
- to continuously improve environmental best management practices in all of its operational areas
- to implement integrated environmental programs in all of its mining and support operations
- to effectively manage potential environmental impact and avoid environmental degradation
- to comply with the appropriate laws and regulations particularly those relating to the environment
- to periodically conduct environmental audits both internally and with an independent auditor to improve the effectiveness of the environmental management system, the implementation of the environmental policy and to fulfill national and international standards
- to provide resources to improve technology, operational methods and develop human resources in order to achieve the environmental goals and objectives of the company.
- Adaro's management is responsible for ensuring that the Environmental Policy will be consistently implemented by developing the knowledge, skills and commitments of it's employees.
Adaro's commitment to this policy will ensure that the company continues to meet the highest national and international standards for environmental rehabilitation while meeting the needs of local communities through integration of environmental projects with community development programs.
