Mining and Hauling
Mining of the coal deposits is being carried out by contractors on behalf of Adaro and is by open cut methods using bulldozers, excavators, loaders and trucks. No blasting is required for coal. Transportation of the overburden is in off-highway dump trucks which are loaded by face shovels and hydraulic excavators. The amount of heavy equipment required for overburden removal is low because of the low strip ratios.
Coal hauling on the 80 km fully sealed haul road is carried out by side dumping double and triple trailer road trains of up to 160 tonnes. These are loaded from run of mine stockpiles for direct transportation to the barge loading facility with no intermediate stockpiling and loading.
