Tutupan
Adaro commenced producing coal from its South Kalimantan Agreement Area in late 1991. At that time all production came from the Paringing deposit which contained moderate reserves of coal from a single 30 meter thick seam. However, as Adaro’s production increased, development commenced at Tutupan which contained mineable reserves in excess of 406 million metric tons and since 1999 all production has come from that mine. The development of the coal resource was based on the construction of a 75 km coal haul road from the coal deposits to a stockpile and barge loading site built at Kelanis on the Barito River. This river flows in a north-south direction in proximity to the Agreement Area and provides navigable deep water access to the Java Sea.
At Kelanis coal is loaded into barges of up to 14,000 dwt for transport either direct to domestic customers or for transhipment into bulk carriers at an offshore anchorage or at the Pulau Laut coal terminal.
